Out of Print !(Huge Shame)

This book is the final word on windows debugging. Not surprising since it comes from one of the authors of the award winning software: "Bounds Checker"
I really enjoyed the chapter on x86 assembly. It covers what needs to be known to read through assembly code when the debugger tosses it at you.
Trying to list all the good stuff in the book will take more time than I can devote right now. What I don't understand is why the book is now out of print. I'm sure some people out there still want to stick to native code and these people deserve to have this book. I'm happy I got mine before it went under.

Do you aspire to be a serious developer? If so, read this bk

John Robbins did a great job on this book. I was very impressed both on the depth and breadth of the issues treated.
At first, I though on skipping the chapter on Visual Basic debugging, since I am strictly a VC++ developer, but I am glad I did not. Even that chapter gave me insights that I can use on my day to day, for example, when he runs the VB compiler while in the debugger and is able to see how VB uses the C compiler's code generation (second pass).
Some great insights and lots of good example on how to resolve problems and how to use all the capabilities of the debugger to ones best advantage.
It will teach you what to do when the debugger gets you to a source line that before that line, everything is working properly, after that line the world has turned upside down. It will teach you enough X86 assembly to make you dangerous and be able to read between the (source) lines in the process. Even if you thought you knew it already.
Could it be improved ? Yes, can't it always ? Coverage on tracking memory leaks could be expanded, for example, to cover MFC's shortcomings when reporting them, but this book is a close to perfection as I have seen them.
And it is a great read too. His style is easy to follow, even though some of the subjects are deep and complex, but John transfers the knowledge so easily, it is amazing.
Once I completed my first read, I really felt like I had just finished listening to a very good rendition of a Beethoven or Mozart simphony.
Every developer that aspire to be a serious developer should read it and reread it.
And thank you, John Robbins. I will be buying every book you write.

Good, but could be even better

When I first heard John Robbins was writing a book on Win32 debugging, I was delighted. I've been a fan of his MSJ Bugslayer articles since the beginning, and John's debugging knowledge, displayed in those articles, has helped me tremendously.
However, for someone who has read all his MSJ work, this book is a bit of a disappointment. The reason is that the second part of the book is a collection of his (slightly-rewritten) MSJ articles, with almost no new content added as far as I can see.
The first part of the book, however, is worth every dollar, as other reviewers have already mentioned, even though I was missing coverage of the WinDbg debugger, and MS tools such as userdump. Maybe in a second edition?
To summarize, I suspect this book to be a 5-star for anyone who is fairly new to debugging and has not read John's MSJ columns. For others, who have been exposed to his columns, and have some experience, I'd rate this book 3-stars.

About the Author
Stephen Adly Guirgis is a member and former co-artistic director of LAByrinth Theater Company, and the 2015 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. His plays have been produced on five continents and throughout the United States. They include Our Lady of 121st Street (Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle Best Play Nominations), Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train (Edinburgh Festival Fringe First Award, Barrymore Award, Olivier Nomination for London’s Best New Play), In Arabia, We’d All Be Kings (2007 LA Drama Critics Best Play, Best Writing Award), The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (10 Best Plays of the Year, Time Magazine & Entertainment Weekly), and The Little Flower of East Orange (with Ellen Burstyn & Michael Shannon). All five plays were directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman and were originally produced by LAByrinth. His Broadway debut, The Motherfucker with the Hat (6 Tony nominations, including Best Play), was directed by Anna D. Shapiro and marked his third consecutive world premiere co-production with The Public Theater and LAByrinth. his son's girlfriend and his son's best friend all of whom call him pops

A worthy Pulitzer Prize winning play about a retired police officer (on disability from bullets he took in a shootout). Living with him are his son, his son's girlfriend and his son's best friend all of whom call him pops. Pops has a long term suit against the city because he feels like he has been shorted on his disability payments. Throw in two police officers who are romantically linked and a church lady with some unusual ideas about how to raise pop's morale. Mix this all together and you have a wonderful topsy turvy play.

Pretty good new healthy cookbook

Just got this book from the library. Haven't made the recipes yet but they look relatively easy and healthy. I don't care for the black pages - it's kind of a weird looking book. Will be curious to read other reviews. The verdict is still out as to whether I will buy it or not.

Difficult to read, insufficiently detailed

This book is a basic introduction to tort law, but as a comprehensive resource for A-Level law (Tort) it completely fails. It is insufficiently detailed in a number of areas to understand and explain the principles behind some of the cases. This makes it really difficult to understand the subject matter and convert that into examination success. To have a reasonable understanding of this for subject you really need to search quite a few of the cases in the book to fill in the details. Without "googleing" cases for further explanation, you can get really lost.

As with all law books there are a few errors, but there was a big error (it looks like an error to me) on the subject of trespass to land. It says that for a trespass to land to be committed it must be in the "defendant's possession", i.e. the defendant must have an interest in the land e.g. a tenancy or lease etc; this is repeated later. Surely if it was in the defendant's possession you could not trespass land you had an interest in? Would the defendant bring an action against himself? It then says that the claimant must interfere with the land to commit a trespass. Surely the claimant can do what they like with their own land. It doesn't make sense to me. This is the kind of thing that makes the reader do independent research to confirm what the author is saying. It is a pity because there really are few decent books on tort. This book is in the ninth edition and this is just sloppy. (If I am wrong, then this part of the book is unclear).

Strengthened My Faith - Recommended

While it took some time for things to get going, this turned out to be a very good, edifying book. Frankly, it feels like women would tend to appreciate the writing style more than men, since it goes into a lot of relational detail; but... relationships are what make the world go 'round and are what the Body of Christ is all about, so men like me will probably enjoy it too. Just be aware that the first half of the book is very slow and relational; it talks a lot about people and relationships.

However, once things began to "happen," what really stood out to me about the author's story was the tangible reality of her simple relationship with God. The Father's love for her came through clearly, simply, and profoundly. My faith was stirred and strengthened by these simple reminders: God is there. God cares. God answers prayer. God moves, especially for His faithful children.

I definitely recommend this book. It's not overly lengthy, and it will encourage you to seek (and find) the Lord who loves you in a very personal way.

About the Author
Dr. Angelo Argento was born in Montreal, Canada. He attended McGill University for his undergraduate degrees in physiology and chemical engineering. He received his doctor of medicine degree from St. George's University School of Medicine, graduating with honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, where he scored the highest grade, among his graduating classmates, on the American College of Physicians National In-Training examination. During residency, Dr. Argento published a rare case report on the antiphospholipid syndrome in the medical journal, CHEST. After graduating from residency in 1999, Dr. Argento became board certified in internal medicine, through the American Board of Internal Medicine; he was recertified in 2009. As a practicing internist, Dr. Argento has documented and published several rare, interesting clinical entities, for example: In 2011, a case report on a rare movement disorder, known as hemichorea-hemiballism associated with nonketotic hyperglycemia, in Practical Neurology. In 2012, he also published a rare case report on hypercalcemia as a presenting clinical manifestation of adenocarcinoma of the colon in World Journal of Oncology.

Great Book - Well Done!

Dr. Argento has put a lot of effort and thought into this book which I have used with medical students this semester. I highly recommend it for anyone in the medical field or anyone interested in medicine. It is a well-put-together compendium and convenient to carry around as a quick reference. Bravo!
