Robert Creeley (1926-2005) published more than sixty books of poetry, prose, essays, and interviews in the United States and abroad, including "If I Were Writing This, Selected Poems 1945-1990, The Collected Poems of Robert Creeley, 1975-2005, "and "The Island. "His many honors include the Lannan Lifetime Achievement Award, the Frost Medal, the Shelley Memorial Award, and the Bollingen Prize in Poetry. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and Distinguished Professor in the Graduate Program in Literary Arts at Brown University.

The concise conversationalist

William Carlos Williams seems to me the poet closest to Creeley, or the one Creeley is closest to. Small lines of ordinary speech and life which occasionally come more alive and striking. Creeley it seems to me presents a kind of stream- of- consciousness of what he sees now. He is famous for his line- breaks and knowing how to stop the sound and sight in the right place. What he feels and believes about life and love is perhaps given in the fact that he was known as the most congenial conversationalist of poets, and also one most generous to others. He loved the word ' home' and wrote in his last years much about the process of 'aging' .

Quite like Creeley's/ older lines, but/ longer/ and more particular/ even in/ their ambiguity./ Now when/ he's not sure/ he's not/ so nervous./ Lovely really.
Actually I liked it./ Really like it./ Read it aloud/ over breakfast sometimes./

Mr. Christman cleanly gives you the skinny on two tools for interaction: He teaches you now to 'scope out' others' intentions so you know how the wind blows...and teaches you many subtle ways to influence them in their actions...depending on what YOU want.

Invaluable to the salesman, teacher, guide, etc. Well worth the loot, and powerful stuff when you apply the information in the book. It brings back the old '60's slogan in a new way: Power To The People!

Fascinating Take on How We Humans Work!

I just finished reading Carl Christman’s “How to Read Minds & Influence People”.

I found the book a very interesting and informative read. While many of the concepts explored may not be revelatory, the way that are put into context and with actionable steps and real word examples, make this a compelling book. Though covering a number of scientific topics, the book is very easy to read and comprehend for us non-sciency types.

Some great examples are used to illustrate many of the points in the book. I particularly found the Coke/Pepsi story extremely interesting.

As someone who keeps finding himself in various sales roles, despite a lifetime aversion to being considered a ’salesman’, the ideas brought forth in the book are so intriguing that I wish I had more of an opportunity to try this stuff out. May have to call that used car lot with the help wanted sign this weekend.

However, as the author says, even those who aren’t ‘sales people’ by title, will benefit from a better understanding of how our ‘audiences’ think & respond in order to better communicate with them. These audiences include bosses, kids, significant others, etc., making this applicable to most humans in some way or another.

I was little curious/concerned about the word ‘influence’ in the book's title as it may imply a negative concept (i.e. coercion), but as explained, it is really intended to result in a mutually beneficial exchange. This is accomplished by learning to communicate so that your message gets past the prospects ‘filters’ based on the ability to read their personality. Good life skills if you ask me.

I recommend this book to anyone who might benefit from a better understanding of people and what causes them to think or behave in a certain way. It is also a good reference book with lists of certain personality types and has some fun ‘tests’ for the reader to asses their own skills in the areas explored.

After many years of selling and countless hours in professional training seminars, Carl wraps up everything in a fun and exciting way that doesn't make you want to put it down! Katharine Campbell is the former private equity correspondent of the Financial Times. She spent five years delving into the secretive world of private equity, and became one of the leading commentators on the sector. A weekly column on the Enterprise Page of the FT provided an outlet for her particular interest in entrepreneurship and venture capital. Previous roles at the FT, where she spent a dozen years in total, included Frankfurt correspondent at the beginning of the 1990s, covering the early years of German unification. She studied German and ancient Greek at Oxford University, and international relations at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, in Washington DC. She now works in the private equity industry.

Essential for entrepreneurs seeking VC money

I am an investment professional in the European VC industry. This book is an extremely accurate picture of all aspects of the venture "game". Entrepreneurs seeking venture capital need to read this book which pinpoints the myriads of dos and don'ts when seeking an investor and closing a deal. I have read a few other books (mostly from american authors) and this one is by far the best.

It is also quite a valuable read for investors. I have been in the industry for 5 years and found lots of interesting aspects that gives perspective for my work as a VC. I would recommend that this book is given to new people in a VC organisation, both investment managers and partners with industry backgrounds.

What makes it so useful is that the author has talked to a lot of VCs across Europe and the US, and thereby has gotten quite a lot of inside information. She has really gotten underneath the surface. The books is also full of quotes from these people which makes it a good read.

For Annasophia and Maestro, their love is ageless, and music is their door through time.

Annasophia Flynn is a young, classically-trained pianist and singer-songwriter who enjoys a special bond with Wilhelm Dahl, her older mentor and teacher whom she affectionately calls Maestro. Annasophia receives a mysterious email to which is attached a photo of her standing by the side of a virile and much-younger Maestro, years before she was born and during the height of his fame and power as a concert pianist. Either somebody’s doing some serious Photoshopping, or Annasophia traveled — or will travel — back in time, meaning that there’s more to her relationship with Maestro than meets the eye.

She visits Maestro in the hospital and shows him the photo. When he talks about a mysterious door and hums a few bars of a romantic Rachmaninoff concerto much beloved by them both, she is compelled to go home and play the piece on her piano. The concerto indeed turns out to be a door back through time, where she meets the younger Maestro, and they fall in love.

But staying in younger Maestro’s time proves tricky. For one thing, he has a son, who will never be conceived or born if Annasophia stays and changes things. She starts to second guess herself and tries to go back to her own time, only to find, each time, that the timeline as she has known it has been altered. For another thing, Maestro’s very elegant and cunning ex-wife, Elena, is determined to get him back and makes up her mind to do everything she can to send Annasophia back to her own timeline for good, where she will have to say goodbye to Maestro forever.

Time travel story with a student-teacher vibe

Come Back to Me starts off in Annasophia's present. Her piano teacher, Maestro, is deathly ill. Maestro has been Annasophia's mentor since she was very young. She can't imagine life without him. As she deals with his illness, she receives a photo of a young Maestro and a woman who looks startlingly like herself. The young woman in the picture looks deeply in love with the man standing next to her. It couldn't possibly be Annasophia, could it?

When she approaches Maestro about the strange photo, Annasophia learns something she never dreamt possible. She can travel through time. Annasophia then travels through time to unravel the mystery of the photo and her relationship with Maestro.

I hate to say it, but Come Back to Me is just one of those books that's not for me. The writing was good and the concept of the story was intriguing. I found the idea of music as the machine in this time travel romance very creative and interesting. I just had a hard time connecting with the characters.

My main problem with the story was the student-teacher relationship. I just find crossing those boundaries very wrong. While Annasophia is an adult in this novel and during her relationship with Maestro, it made reading their shared experiences as Annasophia grew up kind of disturbing. I just couldn't fall in love with their romance because of that.

Come Back to Me is a book well suited for fans of time travel mysteries and readers who don't mind a little forbidden romance.

I enjoyed this book immensely. I understand some would think it in bad taste to be in love with someone much older, but if one reads the whole thing and looks at it from a different perspective it doesn't seem odd or uncomfortable. At least I didn't.
It's about a women who grew up having a tutor train her on the piano, there is nothing odd about that. She adored the older man and felt endured by him. He too had the respect of a older man that just loved teaching his young prodigy.
Then times changes for all. I honestly don't want to give up too much, but it was well written and i did enjoy the whole story. I can imagine and see how she would fall in love with a man such as he.
I will say one thing about a older man and a younger woman-back many years ago women did fall madly in love with older men.
Try it, it is honestly very good.

I was attracted to this novel, Come Back to Me, by Thomma Lyn Grindstaff because of the music and the age of the Maestro, seventy-six years old. He is much older than his protegee. I also like to read Time Travel novels. The young lady fall back from the future 2010 to 1973. In the future, Maestro is dying of Pancreatic Cancer. This part of the book really moved me. Emotional. I suppose death is always hard to take. In 1973, he is young. He has a wife whom he will remarry and a son named Kurt. It's all very intriquing. thommalyngrindstaff.com/blog/
